What is stress?

People have a number of basic needs these include:

  • A need for security

  • A sense of autonomy

  • Attention

  • Intimacy

  • Belonging to a community

Stress results when one of these basic needs is not met and you feel incapable of doing anything about it.

How does stress show itself in us?

  • Being on edge

  • Always anticipating the worst

  • Restlessness

  • Feeling mind gone blank

  • Memory problems

  • Inability to make decisions

  • Attention span reduced

  • Increase in dreaming

  • Shortens our telomeres

  • More argumentative

  • Verbal outbursts

  • Increased stress in workplace

  • Resentment

  • Breakdown of friendships

  • Increase weight

  • Increase in smoking

  • Increase in alcohol

  • Increase in habits

  • Neglect how you look

  • Withdraw socially

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder [OCD]

We need to learn to manage stress and deal with it and the situations linked to it. If we don’t it may progress into something called chronic stress, which further wears us out and propels us into a downward spiral which is harder to get out of.

How can I help?

Stress need not be a permanent state. I can work with you to identify what is causing you stress and develop a bespoke plan of action, supporting you through the next few weeks to help you gain back control of your life. I use a combination of relaxation, hypnotherapy, behavioural and conversational techniques along with practical advice that helps you deal with your stress.
